Does anyone know how to go about starting an online community forum?

I live on an island off New Zealand and I want to start a community forum website for people to get connected and share local support. Where do I start and what resources do I need?

Well, if you have some IT experience, you can try the popular free one called phpBB.

Reply:go to yahoo Groups and start a group... then invite people online to join it.
Reply:me
Reply:The easy way would be to create a Yahoo! Group. Just go to the Yahoo! front page and follow your cute little nose.
Reply:There are several 'Free Forum' options online. All will be ad supported, and will probably require the name to end in their domain (i.e. NZcommunity.inserttheirnamehere.com).

All you have to do is a quick search in Google. The process is fairly simple and self-explanatory. I did it myself once.

Reply:All you need is web site with required GB hardisk space/bandwidth/domain name/mysql/php to get started. once you have these through a hosting solution provider put up the application. and there you go. if you need help contact me at the web site
Reply:The easiest way is to start a Yahoo Group. Go to Yahoo's Group page and click "Start a Group Now". Very easy to do and you can make it so that only people you invite can join.
Reply:myspace groups is great.
