what does it mean to be a part of an online community? What are the advantages and disadvantages of organizing from different locations and time zones?
What does it mean to be a part of an online community?
it's like if your part of an blog, forum something that you go on daily, weekly....and yahoo answers would also count. the advantages are you get to ask question get answers discuss topics among those who are also interested in the same topic. Disadvantages are if you can't handle what people say, don't feel that they are right. there are many people who won't have the same opinion and feel they are right and you are wrong.
Reply:To be part of an online community is literally to take part in some action through the internet where more than one person is required. For example, yahoo.com or Xbox Live.
Advantages: You gather multiple opinions and a variety of perspectives, plus it's just fun :)
Disadvantages: People in online communities such as Xbox Live may have difficulties getting online at the same time to play or chat. Yahoo answers isn't as severe when it comes to this issue but if someone needs an answer right away, some people will most likely be sleeping at the time.
Enjoy :P

Reply:Hm. To me, as a person that's really only attended one (I don't count Yahoo! Answers %26lt;%26lt;), it's like a family. People are judged on their words alone, so it's easier to be real and see others for what they are.
An advantage of the time zones is that it's easy to avoid someone if you're having a disagreement, but the later time zones will probably end up with getting none or little sleep if they want to talk. Another advantage is that you really can learn about other places; it's a great way to break out of your area's "bubble".
